Aston University Student Union

Stewarts teamed up with main contractor Clegg Construction to assist with the construction of the new Adrian Cadbury building at Aston University, home to the Students’ Union.

Named after the former University Chancellor, the building houses a café, bar, restaurant, shop, social spaces, prayer room, washing facilities, games area, media room and rehearsal spaces. There is also a work area for the Union’s team of student officers.

The new build replaced the original 1960s Students’ Union building and is at the heart of the University’s campus. The two storey, steel framed building has achieved an A-rated Energy Performance Certificate due to its incorporation of energy efficient lighting, air conditioning controls, district heating, sustainable timbers, photovoltaic panels and a strict recycling policy.

The Adrian Cadbury Building then went on to win the Guardian newspaper’s prestigious “Buildings That Inspire” award.

“During [the construction of the new Union building], Stewarts were proactive in their approach to the development of design for both mechanical and electrical works, had a positive team ethos for the delivery of the project and their attention to detail and cost advice was very good.”Tony Corke, Senior Project Manager, Aston University
